Happy 8th Birthday, Elijah

Eight years ago today, Elijah Frank Spurlock, made his entrance into this world and never in a million years did I realize how much that little man would change our lives.

When he was just two months old, Hurricane Rita made her entrance into East Texas and caused us all a lot of discomfort.  Joel and I along with Sam were headed North to stay in Woodville at Joel's mothers apartment when we received a phone call from Erin asking if her and Elijah could go with us.  Many nights of no electricity were filled with me singing and talking to Elijah, NON-STOP  He was a great distraction during our misplacement due to the hurricane.

As he started growing up PawPaw made sure to teach him everything he possibly could, even push mowing.

As he grew into a sweet young boy, time flew past and the next thing we were attending was his Kindergarten graduation.  WOW how time flies.

On his 6th birthday in 2011, we took him to Blue Bell Creamery in Brenahm on our way to San Antonio for a fun filled weekend.   I believe that Joel and I had as much fun as he did.

Now in 2013, we celebrate 8 years and not much has changed except some of us have hit the 50 + mark and keeping up with the energy of an 8 year old can be a challenge.

Elijah celebrating his birthday with cake and gifts!

We've enjoyed every moment that we've gotten to spend with him and look forward to many more.  During his visits, he had made friends in Wildwood.  He loves the outdoors and playing baseball, frisbee, swimming at the Wildwood beach and when our cat, Francesca was living, he gave her a lot of attention.   After his trip to Brenham, he made sure to give his friend a Blue Bell hat......very COOL.   If you haven't gone to the Blue Bell Creamery you must make a point to make that trip.  An awesome place and the tour is very informative.

Tonight we celebrated his birthday during the Shoffitt Family sponsored firework display in Wildwood.  So why not celebrate Elijah's birthday and our country's independence all in one.  He doesn't need to know that they really were  not celebrating his birthday.

Firework Display at Wildwood

As we sat and watched the fireworks display from the bleachers in an open field, someone starts to play Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA which brought a tear to my eyes.  But then again, any patriotic song does that to me.  I'm so thankful to live in a country with so many freedoms.   That freedom comes from the many men and women in the United States Armed Forces who fight for our freedom and so many who gave the ultimate sacrifice......their life.   To each of you I say, THANK YOU!

Let's never forget our Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave his life for our sins so that we may spend an eternity with him.

John 3:16

King James Version (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

So now I'll leave you with a few faces of my precious grandson, Elijah!
